What is MND?

Motor neurone disease (MND) is a progressive and degenerative neurological disorder.

MND primarily impacts the motor neurones in the brain and spinal cord.

These motor neurones are cells that are responsible for transmitting messages from the brain to the muscles, enabling voluntary movements such as walking, speaking, and breathing. They send commands from the brain to the muscles that carry out these functions.

As MND progresses, the affected motor neurones gradually deteriorate, leading to muscle weakness, paralysis, and difficulties in performing everyday tasks.
