Hazel Carter – Caregiver survivor.
Born in North Devon, the eldest of 5 children, Hazel has lived in the West Midlands for all her adult life.
Hazel gave up her successful career as a director in the Financial Services industry in 2018 to focus on caring for her husband, Alan.
During Alan’s illness, Hazel raised funds for the MND Association, Marie Curie and The Myton Hospices. Hazel is donating 100% of the proceeds from the sale of her book to these three charities.
In June 2022, Hazel donated a kidney to her younger brother. She said, “I couldn’t do anything to save Alan’s life, but I could try to save my brother’s life.” The operation was successful and both Hazel and her brother are well.
In addition to being an active public speaker about the challenges of being a caregiver, Hazel is a volunteer for Marie Curie.
In March 2023 Hazel was a finalist for the Inspirational Woman award and won Inspirational Author award, from Ladies First Professional Development network, for her book.
In a vote by MND Association members in July 2023 Hazel was chosen from 16 candidates to join the Board of Trustees of MND Association.
