Meet the author,
Hazel Carter

Hazel Carter – Author, fundraiser, volunteer, trustee and public speaker.

Born in North Devon, the eldest of 5 children, Hazel has lived in the West Midlands all her adult life.

Hazel gave up her successful career as a director in the Financial Services industry in 2018 to focus on caring for her husband, Alan.

In June 2022, Hazel donated a kidney to her younger brother. “I couldn’t do anything to save Alan’s life,” she says, “but I could try to save my brother’s life.” The operation was successful and both Hazel and her brother are well. She has since gone on to become a Buddy to people considering being a kidney donor.

In March 2023 Hazel was a finalist for the Inspirational Woman award and won Inspirational Author award, from Ladies First Professional Development network.

In a vote by MND Association members in July 2023 Hazel was chosen from 16 candidates to join the Board of Trustees of MND Association.

During Alan’s illness, Hazel raised funds for the MND Association, Marie Curie and The Myton Hospices. After Alan died she raised a further £9000 to cover the cost of printing her book so she could donate 100% of the proceeds from the sale of her books to these three charities.

In addition to being an author Hazel is a volunteer at Marie Curie, supporting families living with MND, and is an active public speaker (lifesgoodbook.co.uk/talks-by-hazel).
