Has Roberta Flack Got MND?

Roberta Flack, American singer and accomplished pianist, has received a diagnosis of ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease or motor neurone disease, MND.

In a statement, Flack’s manager Suzanne Koga said the disease “has made it impossible to sing and not easy to speak”. Despite the challenges posed by the disease, Flack remains resolute, she said it will “take a lot more than ALS to silence this icon”.

Koga added that Flack will remain ‘active in her musical and creative pursuits’, including working with her foundation for animal welfare and music education.

While ALS affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, leading to a loss of muscle control, Flack intends to continue her involvement in musical and creative pursuits, including her work with foundations focused on animal welfare and music education.
